Replicating Successful Examples of Linking Tourism and Conservation in Africa

We’re excited to host a Solution Room session at the Business of Conservation Conference (BCC), in Kigali, Rwanda, on 31 August.

LT&C’s session, “Replicating Successful Examples of Linking Tourism and Conservation in Africa”, aims to develop ideas on how to replicate LT&C Examples across Africa to create more long-term ecotourism projects, initiatives, and partnerships that manage, fund, and educate around protected areas.

Our chair Diana Körner will be joined by representatives from two of our African LT&C Examples: Peace Mutoni from Red Rocks Rwanda and Benjamin Taylor from Chumbe Island Coral Park.

“As the climate crisis and biodiversity loss intensify, we increasingly look at those places that inspire hope and showcase concrete models of how tourism can regenerate biodiversity, educate stakeholders and provide financial means and political support for conservation in protected areas.

To accelerate the replication of these beacons of hope in Africa, we are planning a discussion with participants at our BCC side event to identify tools needed,” says Diana.

The speakers will share their ecotourism and conservation models and the needs, barriers, and successes for replication. Following the discussion, active working groups will be held with session participants.

The BCC is hosted by the African Leadership University School of Wildlife Conservation and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB).

This year’s conference theme is “Building Resilient and Sustainable Wildlife Economies”. It aims to promote Africa’s wildlife economy and influence economic development in Africa through the sustainable use of wildlife resources.

The conference, taking place at the Kigali Convention Center from 29-31 August, is attended by CEOs, policymakers, heads of state, investors, conservation businesses, NGOs, and others.

More information on the conference and LT&C’s session can be found on our events page.
