If you want to find out, where the idea of Linking Tourism & Conservation (LT&C) originates from you may visit Svalbard next year. If you think about travelling and want to do good for nature conservation at the same time, you may choose to visit one of our LT&C-Examples: National Parks or other types of protected areas, which are supported by tourism and provide excellent wildlife experiences. LT&C in cooperation with tour operator members offers special tours to visit and study such wonderful examples. If you are yourself an LT&C-member (penguin) you can also benefit from discounted tour offers.

Meanwhile we have described worldwide 26 examples, where the cooperation between conservation and tourism had led to the establishment of protected areas or the support and improvement of their management. It is now time to make these examples better known, learn from them and identify incentives and tools to replicate or boost them.

In this context,  in recent years study tours have been conducted, where the LT&C concept was presented on site. Thereby tours around Svalbard, where many aspects of the entire circumpolar Arctic can be shown in a nutshell, have proved to be in particular inspiring and motivating.

Keep an eye on our website page „Tours & Events„, if you want to explore and study exciting LT&C-Examples yourself. Often such LT&C-Study Tours are offered with discounted prices for our members. E.g. in February you can visit with our founding member Oceanwide Expeditions during an outstanding 3-weeks journey the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Antarctica, and pay 20% less than other passengers on board.

However, these tours can still be expensive, and we don’t want to stimulate tourism in principle, if it is finally not benefiting the environment. LT&C has the strong vision that everybody involved in tourism is supporting at least some of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) our their 169 targets. We ourselves focus on SGG 14 (Life below water) and 15 (Life on land). And if we are traveling ourself we make sure, and recommend the same to our members, to support Climate Action (13), by at least offsetting our climate footprints. Most competent in this field is our member, the South Pole Group. As they could describe their project Kariba REDD+ also as an LT&C-Example, it is for us most natural to recommend this this project for offsetting any travel footprints.
