The Centre for Action Research on Environment Science and Society – ‘protecting Natural and Cultural Diversity since 1998″

Our mission is to inform and advocate conservation and natural resource management, while promoting and supporting sustainable livelihoods, social development and environmental justice. Our work aims at building community capacities for conservation and enhancing community stakes and rights in environmental decision-making, towards strengthening networks and supporting advocacy campaigns. Our goal is to promote ecologically and socially appropriate approaches to conservation and management in coastal, marine, forests and mountain ecosystems in India. Our founder trustee Vineeta Hoon earlier worked with Tiger Tops as their operation  Manager in Chitwan Nepal, Ladakh and Jungle Lodges in India in the 1980’s before moving on to research and rural development. This model continues to be copied and replicated in various parts of India to promote wildlife tourism. We believe that if tourism is handled ethically it can actually help protect wilderness areas and wildlife. We network with like minded resorts, home stays and tour companies that link conservation with tourism and support livelihoods of local communities.
