Dear members of the Wadden Sea Community,
Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Wadden Sea’s designation as a World Heritage site, on 29 August 2019 the Wadden Sea Day 2019 will focus on interpretation. With outreach and education at its core, interpretation is an essential factor for broad acceptance and support of the long-term conservation of the Wadden Sea. In order to protect the Wadden Sea’s Outstanding Universal Value it must be known, understood and respected. Outreach and education are obligations that directly result from the World Heritage Convention and inscription on the World Heritage List.
At this year’s Wadden Sea Day we will explore different approaches to communication with residents and visitors, how to implement new technology and educational approaches, how to activate the public for citizen science and communicate scientific research to the public.
Invited are policy-makers, educators, conservation managers, scientists and non-governmental organizations working in the field. A draft program will be distributed shortly.
Please be aware that the number of participants will be limited to 100 people.
You are invited to distribute this information within your network.
Registration will be possible between 10 June and 13 August 2019.
