August 26, 2022 – September 2, 2022 all-day
Nyakinama village, Musanze district, Rwanda
Greg Bakunzi, Red Rocks Initiatives For Sustainable Development

is an annual event that starts in the last week of August and ends during the first week of September, and the event coincides with the Annual Gorilla Naming ceremony. This annual celebration seeks to engage the community (and everyone) in National Park Service recreational activities and stewardship that benefit their local communities and volcanoes national park home to the last surviving mountain gorillas and it emphasizes the community’s role in conservation and strengthening opportunities for the local community to show their support and commitment for permanently protecting our natural, cultural, and recreational resources and inspire the next generation of stewards. The week-long Culture Festival provides an opportunity for people to deepen their understanding of our culture and the efforts made by the locals to protect the endangered mountain gorillas.

And as a tourism hub, we are using this week to increase participation in cultural activities by the local people within Rwanda and also to promote the values of using cultural activities in addressing the broader agendas of our community like health, education, conservation, environmental protection and cultural heritage preservation.

We undertake eco-conservation through literacy and activities, using tourism in society as a way of skill development for socio-economic, educational and cultural upliftment and this event brings us together under one umbrella as a community, we come together to share issues and knowledge of the good practices focused on how to care for and maintain quality among tourism and the environment, and the key concepts of eco-friendly tourism and culture

Our cultural festival supports a sense of cultural unity while fostering an opportunity for environmental and cultural conservation among both participants and key personnel.

This event helps us celebrate and promote cultural diversity with a sense of pride and excitement in our culture. Join us and be a part of a week with experiences in an authentic, vibrant celebration of culture and tourism in Rwanda.
