„CEM” is the abbreviation for French ” Conservation des Especes Marines” (protection of marine species). This is the name of the NGO in Grand Bereby (Ivory Coast, West Africa), which since 2012 has been working on the protection of sea turtles and the related development of the coastal areas in a 40 km long stretch of coast. “CEM-Europe” sees itself as a European association in addition to the African NGO to provide international cooperation.

The charitable purpose of the association is the partnership-based development cooperation with people in coastal regions of Côte d’Ivoire. The purpose of the statutes is implemented by imparting ecological and cultural experience and skills for environmental and nature conservation, as well as by promoting education and health care in the sense of holistic nature conservation involving the local population.

The purpose of the statutes is realized by:

A: Promotion of the educational system

B: Support and promotion of the population in the vicinity of the planned coastal protected areas in the areas of school education, youth welfare and health, e.g. through micro-projects (solar power, drinking water wells)

C: Promotion of research in relation to the planned coastal protected areas, e.g. by supporting students from the University of Abidjan in research projects and biological studies to promote the protection goals of the above-mentioned area.
